There are three unofficial red light districts in Kuala Lumpur. They might feel sketchy at times, but they provide access to hundreds of different girls – not just Malaysians, but girls from other Asian countries too. The bars and restaurants I mentioned above are excellent for a date. The restaurants are quite fancy, so only the wealthy locals go in there. They will not feel too expensive for a foreigner though. As for the bars, some of them have great views over the city – including a few rooftop bars. These are the right places to impress a lady.
I found a few other places that can impress a date and the best part is that many locals overlook them:
- Heli Lounge Bar – an actual helipad where you can admire the sunset while having a drink
- Hobby N Coffee – if she loves coffee, you two can make each other coffee in a class
- CuBs and CuPs – ideal if she has a dog, as this place lets you drink and dine with your furry friend
- Giant Pasar Malam – some sort of market with lots of stalls
What about scammers?
They are everywhere, but you need to use common sense to avoid them. I have never had any issues and I have been to Kuala Lumpur like 20 times. Let me give you a few tips.

How to get around in Kuala Lumpur
Walking is alright, but annoying at times – motorists do not always follow signs and many traffic lights fail to work. Just be extremely careful when crossing the road. Cycling? Out of discussion. KL Sentral is the largest train station in this part of Asia, so there are obviously lots of connections – ideal for long city distances, as well as other cities or nearby areas. However, you do not always mind paying $2 instead of $1. It is nothing, after all. Use Google Maps or other satnav app too, just to make sure the driver will not take you on a 20 mile trip to make more money out of you.
